Satra
There are three Satras in North Guwahati. They are Garmur, Aauniati and Dihing Satra. These are situated in North Bank of river Brahmaputra. Aauniati Satra may be called a branch of main Aauniati Satra of Majuli. During the days of invasion of main warrior & rebellion of Marans, King Purnananda Buragohain most likely established this Satra with six satradhikar. Out of twelve Satras of Assam, this satra is a specific one. In every year, devotes of Majuli’s Aauniati Satra perform ‘Ankia Nat’ & ‘Palnam’ in this Satra of North Guwahati.
Dihing Satra has two divisions named ‘Sarujana’ & ‘Barjana’.
Besides these ancient monument, North Guwahati is famous for many old ‘Namghar’ Ponds etc. Among Namghar, Gopinath Namghar, Nagara Namghar, Hiloijari Namghar, Bor Namghar are mentionable. Among Ponds of kings days, Silsako parikhit Pond, Kuwari Pond, Gelapukhuri etc. are famous. Ancient Puran Satra mentioned about this place & it named the place as ‘Pub Kashi Khetra’. On the other hand, with Natua Nasa hill of North side of North Guwahati, Sati Buhela epic is connected. Sati Buhela danced on the Natua Nasa Hill to satisfy Devagana & sought the life of her dead Husband.
There is a small hill named Bayukut in western part of North Guwahati. Another name of this Bayukut Hill is Rangali Hill. One who prays Bayu on this hill will acquire abundant wealth & live long life. In the hill Chandra kut though there is no temple, the lord Madhaboswar is sitting there.
There is no want of people, whose mind always needs to know about past, distant historical past of many places. North Guwahati is such a Historically famous place where many people visits every year. So tourist department of Assam has got responsibilities to develop tourism in these places of Assam pride.
